How Many Wooden Toys Fit in a 20GP or 40HQ
How to calculate container loading for wooden toys from carton dimensions: the formula, worked examples, and why the supplier's carton data matters.
The calculation is simple: carton volume in CBM = length x width x height in metres. A 20GP holds roughly 28 CBM of usable space, a 40HQ roughly 68 CBM. Divide the container volume by the carton volume to get the number of cartons, then multiply by pieces per carton.
The number is an estimate, not a loading plan. Real loading depends on carton orientation, stacking strength and how the pallets are built. A play kitchen with a 0.15 CBM carton and 1 piece per carton, for example, gives roughly 180 cartons per 20GP on paper — but the real plan will be lower once you allow for access and weight distribution.
This is why we ask for carton dimensions and gross weight before quoting a mixed container. Without them, any loading number is a guess, and a guess is how containers end up half empty.
Every product page on this site lists the carton data where the workshop provides it. If a number is missing, ask us and we will get it from the workshop before quoting.
