How to Import Wooden Toys from China: Step by Step
A practical walk-through of importing wooden toys from China: sourcing, sampling, MOQ, payment, inspection, shipping and documents.
Most first-time wooden toy imports fail in the same place: the buyer picks products before understanding carton data, MOQ and lead time. The product is the easy part — the logistics decide whether the order makes money.
Start with the categories you can actually sell, not the ones that look good. A toy shop, a school supplier and an Amazon seller need different ranges; a mixed container of 8–15 SKUs across two or three categories is a sensible first order.
Then confirm four numbers per SKU: MOQ, carton quantity, carton dimensions and lead time. If a supplier cannot give you those, the listing is not ready to buy from. Build the loading plan before you pay a deposit.
Sample before you commit. For wooden toys the sample tells you about sanding, paint and assembly — three things that decide whether the product survives a season on a shelf. Approve the sample in writing.
Finally, agree inspection and documents: who checks the goods before loading, which documents travel with the container, and what the payment schedule is. A 30% deposit and balance before loading is normal; never pay the balance before inspection.
